LYRICS:
i drew a line from me to you and touched the center so i drove down to new mexico to see and thought about a moment last december when you could have been anything to me but all i learned’s that i don’t like new mexico. i never did but now i like it less ‘cause i have been in love before and i have been in flames before and i’ve been to new mexico so many times before as in the place but also it’s a metaphor. you are the screenplay to a film about an angel and the orchestra is silent in the field. the devil laughs “kid, don’t think you’re so special. serves you right for thinkin’ it was real”. i won’t be in love again. i will turn my ticket in. i will sing a lullaby, pretending that you dared to try, a joke but also it’s a little more.
i said you are the answer and i meant it: love and how my heroes represent it. heart attacks kept me awake, that freeway turned into a lake, you molded me up from the clay and i know you could never stay a birthday, home and holiday... an altar for that saturday when i was 21–i didn’t know yet but i always meant it.
i always meant it.
(i don’t wanna be punk rock anymore.)
